I strive to uphold my journalistic values through every aspect of my reporting, whether through my internship, for the Northwestern News Network, or within my coursework. Below is a collection of the pieces I have completed in my reporting courses, in Evanston, Chicago, and across the world, including SPJ-award-winning work.

Data Visualization & Multimedia Work

This story was my individual project completed for my Journalism 390 - Storytelling: Mastering the Data Narrative course. I spent three weeks collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and writing about the correlation between SAT scores and the median income level of households in secondary school districts across Illinois.

Female Venezuelan Migrant Musicians Overcome Adversity to Perform in Colombia

I traveled with a cohort to Bogotá, Colombia, in the spring of my sophomore year at Northwestern. In Bogotá, female musicians who have migrated from Venezuela now make a living performing in a new country. This was my final project produced for Journalism 305: JOURneys.

WTTW Red Line Extension:Social Justice Reporting in Chicago

It's a promise 50 years in the making. This story earned an SPJ Mark of Excellence Award for Television General News Reporting. In my "Social Justice Reporting in Chicago" course, I worked in a team of four to report on the Red Line Extension Project for WTTW Chicago. I was the lead videographer for the piece, was selected to track for the story, and assisted in script creation and editing. The web version of the story was posted on December 9, and the package aired on Chicago Tonight and Chicago Tonight Black Voices on December 11.

Art and the Environment

From galleries to maker spaces, Evanston's art community is conscientious about the changing climate. This is the final package I produced for my "Journalism In Practice: Video Reporting" course, working in a group of two as a videographer and the lead editor. The story will have the opportunity to be published on the Evanston RoundTable website.

Pathway to Wellness:Social Justice Reporting in Chicago 90 Second Package

Neticia Waldron is committed to health and wellness in her community, from her founding of Whole Woman Fitness to her new partnership with the City of Evanston in the Pathway to Wellness initiative. This story was produced for Journalism 390 Special Topics: Social Justice Reporting in Chicago.

Framing and Sequencing Exercise: Tashlich

Many members of the Jewish Community in Evanston honor the Tashlich ritual on the shores of Lake Michigan. This exercise in framing and sequencing an environment and a person was produced for Journalism 301 Journalism in Practice: Video Reporting.

Ukrainian Community Remains Resilient in Chicago

This is the final news package I created for my Journalism 201-2 Introduction to Video Journalism course at Northwestern University. The piece is a larger issue package focusing on the ways Chicago's Ukrainian community remains connected through culture and advocacy beyond the second anniversary of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Lunar New Year in Evanston 2024

This is the second news package I created for my Journalism 201-2 Introduction to Video Journalism course at Northwestern University. The piece is an event story on Evanston's Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, February 11th, 2024.
