About Me

Hello! My name is Alison, and I am a student journalist at Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism. I'm a second-year student studying Integrated Marketing Communications, Legal Studies, Political Science, and English Literature.

I'm an aspiring broadcast journalist with a love of all things storytelling and video. I currently work as an intern at Oxford Community Television and as a Reporter, Anchor, Assignment Editor and Executive and Associate Producer at Northwestern News Network.

I'm incredibly passionate about impactful journalism and creating coverage that uplifts underrepresented individuals, ideas, and identities. I value equity, inclusivity, and integrity in both my storytelling and my own life. I am continuing to learn about digital and multimedia content to connect communities and explore the transforming journalistic landscape.

Foreword and Future: My Journalism Story

I began working as a journalist in eighth grade. I tested out of a computers class in hopes of adding a language to my schedule, but instead I was placed into Media Productions. Completely lost in the nuances of editing software and uncertain of where to even begin with interviewing, I had absolutely no idea that a tiny bit of storytelling would transform my entire future. As I learned, I found love in every piece of the process. The creative freedom, collaboration, independence, meticulous planning, and the impact of creating news content all drove me to pursue the television journalism pathway at the high school level. Now, after multiple broadcasting courses and opportunities, I have never been more certain in my love for creating stories that truly have an impact. Whether I am behind the camera shooting footage and interviews, stationed at the computer finalizing editing and audio production, live in the studio performing as an anchor or directing our newscast, or planning and producing news packages from start to finish, I devote myself to journalistic excellence and strive to create a positive impact with every word.
